Treatments and Information

Psoriasis is caused by an over active immune system in the skin. Treatments aim to quiet down the over activity. They include topical steroids, UVB treatments, Methotrexate, Soriatane, Otezla and Biologics. Some of these have significant side effects and can be costly, so it is best to have your therapy overseen by an experienced Dermatologist.

Acne treatments include topical agents such as benzoyl peroxide, topical retinoids like trenitoin and adapalene creams, and exfoliants such as salicylic acid preparations. More severe acne may require oral antibiotics and even Accutane.

Eczema is another condition brought on by an overactive immune system. Treatments include topical steroids, immune modulators such as tacrilimus ointment  and elidel cream, UVB-ultraviolet light  therapy, oral agents  such as methotexate (a chemotherapy agent), cyclosporine and Dupixent (a new biologic agent). New medications are being tested each year.

With all of the choices available it is best to go with experience gained through clinical trials and reported after double blind scientific study. I want to make sure that any medication we use has been proven to be safe and effective.
